A papasan chair is a large, rounded, bowl-shaped chair with an adjustable angle and made of “sturdy wicker” or wood. The problem for fat people is however sturdy the wicker or wood may be, it is not enough. Lets face it, for a papasan chair to work for a fat person it would need to be constructed of heavy steel, concrete, bricks, or any other material used to construct industrial buildings. You might as well make a chair out of popsicle sticks if you use wicker and wood to make a home for an enormous posterior.
Should a fat person come to your home, and you ask them to sit down on your papasan chair be prepared to…
1. have a broken chair
2. call the tow truck company, because you will need a heavy crane to pull your fat friend from the ground.
I would highly recommend having large cement blocks available if you entertain fat folk often. The cement will most likely be able to handle the weight requirements of your often masticating compadre. You should not worry about entertaining much, as most fat people would rather meet their friends at a restaurant. This way they know what food options are available to them.
Papasan chairs are better suited for small children, smaller people with Asian backgrounds, jockey’s, or cats. Should you see a papasan in the house of a fat person chances are good that no one has ever actually sat in the chair.
I am so jealous of all the people who can curl up in a papasan chair. I always wanted one when I was a kid, that and that other wicker or bamboo chair that hangs from the ceiling and swings. I can see the hole in my ceiling now…
Whoever wrote this article is a sick person. Obviously your discontent for “fat people” makes it OK to talk about them as if they aren’t human or do not have feelings. Personally I would laugh my “fat” ass off if you “oh so skinny and perfect” died of a heart attack… Ha! one can only wish…
A sick person? I’m not sure I understand. I’m very much an overweight person, but I am comfortable with my size and I really don’t care what other people think. There is nothing wrong with laughing at yourself or people that are like you. Are you angry because you wish you could sit on wicker furniture? I realize that I will probably never own wicker furniture or a papasan chair. I’m okay with that. Really it’s okay. Fat people need to stop being so overly sensitive about everything. The majority of society thinks fat people have low self esteem because so many fat people are hypersensitive about who they are. Live your life happy and jolly like everyone should. Laugh at imperfections rather than spread anger.
Right on Tony. Don’t be mad at others because you are fat. I don’t get mad at you for being fat. Just because some clever person can find a way to make something that is so prevalent in todays society such as fat people a thing you can find humor in is not a reason to direct your internal anger at them. You should be happy that others can take such as serious and life threatening thing at being fat lightly. No pun intended.
…..Plus, if you did sit in one of those chairs and it broke I would laugh my butt off…..as should you.
Actually, I’m OBESE and I had one of those chairs for quite a long time…loved it so much I made it my computer desk chair…even slept in it! & yea, it was normal size.
So you “had” a papasan chair. Keyword… “had” Then it became kindling. If you have a picture of yourself in your former papasan please send it on in for the rest of us to see. Did you sleep in it because you couldn’t get out of it?
Hehe I have a papasan chair, and I absolutely love it…it has yet to break or show signs of breakage, and I have had it for threes years, I weight around 317 so it was a surprise to read this about a papasan. I have in fact broken 1 futon and 1 wood framed bed, but the chair has lasted, I do have pics…somewhere…if you would like to see this
.
Yes we are going to need to see evidence of the 317lbs on the papasan. Is it made of steel? How do you get in and out of it? If this is actually true I will not be so afraid to sit on wicker!
Tony, you are a dumb ass! Papasan chairs are not made of wicker, they are made of Rattan which is extreamly strong and durable. To anyone else… you can feel safe sitting in a Papasan chair. I am not sure if they have a “weight limit” (check w/ Pier 1 on that), but I’d quess unless you are 600 or 700 lbs. you should be ok. Stop being an ass and so rude Tony….
Strong and durable… bah! Anything you sit on that creeks and crackles is not going to last long when that much weight is sitting on it. I didn’t even mention how far back you sit in the chair. You’re stuck like a turtle. All the wiggling and shuffling of the fat is bound to take a toll on rattan or wicker. Recently I paid Pier1 a visit, let’s just say the sales lady was concerned.
Now this is really funny, i have sat in many a papasan chair and i am not obese but i am overweight, i have never broken one but my X had 2 of them and he weighed 145 lbs, all of the times i have curled up in them and never ever had a probloem but he got into each one drunk and broke them both….. maybe he was dreaming that he was obese???
Okay Ms. Kayla!
I am 130, and my “fat ass/because everyone thinks they have one” brought down an outside swing from the ceiling! And how do you know a skinny person wrote that?
Any way, for
The Other People Here!
You can get a papasan chair made from PVC! Check it out! I don’t know if it will work any better than wicker, but, if you can make it out of pvc pipe, you can make it out of wire, metal, real wood and put it on a well built frame!
Amanda,
Where can you get a Papasan chair made of PVC???? I would love to have one for my balcony. I live at the beach and we are only allowed to have furniture that is made out of PVC on the balcony. It would be cool to have a Papasan chair and a Mamasan chair out there. Let me know where I can get them! Thanks!!!
Ya being fat SUX ass…BUT..WHO THE HELL CARES! if your happy and alive..its all good..the only thing that is sad in life is if your handicaped and hate it..so if you cant walk or your too fat to leave the bed or you have HIV and can’t have a partner because of it or your dying of cancer…fat is SOOO not that bad..!! There is ALWAYS people to love oyu if its a partner or family…life is all about what you make of it! The person writting these blogs is HAPPY with thier life..so i think they are interensting and well written! This is entertaining me at my dead end boring cubical job! So i am happy! lol ohh now im not making sence and rambling tah tah for now!
lol fat ppl
I’m 216 pounds and 4’11.5 (yes the half counts) and I’ve curled up on a papasan couch. I didn’t break it and i was ridiculously comfortable!
I beg to differ.
I’m 153 lbs. and I have a wicker chair that I sit in all of the time and it’s just fine.
Although, The site is hilarious!
just saying here, that whoever is offended by this article needs to learn to laugh at themselves. this is obviously a humor column, not something written out of hatred for those whow are “exceptionally large”. so, whoever, “kayla” is should laugh. just a little. please kayla?
Can I just say that concrete blocks are actually NOT that safe? While my house was being built, I sat on and broke several. I weight 220, so they really aren’t that sturdy. I would suggest a rock or solid concrete block.
I break furniture. LOL.
You know those camping chairs that fold out? well, we actually got a couple one time that didn’t break but I will sit in them VERY carefully before putting all the weight on them, JUST IN CASE i fall through.
Hahahaha.
Yeah, my fat ass got into them, but it wasn’t easy gettin back out! LOL
yah kayla needs to laugh alittle and have a sense of humor!
looking for round folding chair with arms,my brother has one but doesnt remember where he got it anybody know?
Tony, your freakin hilarious. I own a papasan chair and I’m a big girl. I sit in it whenever I want to relax, but it’s true. Those damn things are so hard to get out of!!! Not only am I fat, but my legs and my arms are really short too so that makes it a real challenge.
For all those having difficulties getting out of the Papasan chair, they just came out with a new one called the Rockasan, its a rocker papasan, and it is definitely a lot easier to get out of their chair when you can just rock it forward, haha.
I’m overweight, and I’ve broken a papasan chair myself, so not fun when your hand goes right through, and I love this new rockasan – I’ve had mine for almost a year now, and its great!
Fat People Are Nasty
What an ass… Don’t get me wrong I’m fat and I don’t mind people being mean about it, all being fat means is that I can eat whatever I want, when I want. And I love making fun of others but this is seriously bigot material… ” call the tow truck company, because you will need a heavy crane to pull your fat friend from the ground.”… do you even know a fat person? Maybe I’m wrong but at 300 Lbs I have no problem with standing… in fact you sound so ignorant I’m starting to assume your fat and this happened to you and now your hating on the chair… Finally my point… I have a chair like this except it has a plastic frame, thats right plastic. at 300 pounds my chair has survived for several years in nearly new condition. If anybody takes this article seriously I doubt their sanity
